Disorderly Conduct for Bronco Celebration

Oh brother! The Adams County government and law enforcement has too much time on their hands. So, rather than do something productive with it, they decided to prosecute an elderly couple for honking a set of horns in celebration of a Bronco touchdown. The Broncos haven’t been doing that well, I can’t image how disturbing that could possibly be. More importantly, I see some prior restraint all over this case.

Here’s the video!

My first question would be to ask, “How often is this couple honking their horn – considering the Bronco’s dismal season?”

While the actions of this elderly couple doesn’t seem like a big deal simultaneously Adams County is portrayed as the big bad government with nothing to do but target the elderly; I support Adams County. What if, beside the elderly couple lived a family with a newborn and the horns prevented the infant from sleeping? What if, living next door was a widow that recently lost her husband, who, was the world’s largest Bronco fan; but at the honking of the horns was reminded of her husband?

At one point in the video clip, the elderly gentleman (does not get sympathy points for wear an oxygen tube during his interview) stated that their actions were not intended to be disorderly. I disagree. I think it’s sweet that this couple enjoys actively rooting for their favorite team; however I question why he didn’t build a horn to be enjoyed within their home. Why can this horn contraption only be enjoyed outdoors at the expense of their neighbor’s privacy?

By definition of disorderly conduct, this couple may have been disturbing the peace. If they bring their horn indoors and keep their enthusiasm confined to within their home – I don’ think jail time should be served by I do think this couple should consider that not all Coloradans are Bronco’s fans.

I am the consummate Broncos fan and even I agree that the elderly couple’s actions constitute disorderly conduct. The contraption deprives their neighbors of the enjoyment of their property and disturbs the peace of fans and foes alike. I am surprised they weren’t charged sooner.

If we remove the fact that the parties charged are an elderly couple, the sympathy would be right out of the window. What if they were teenagers? I support Adams County in addressing the problem but I also support a compromise, such as the couple’s modification of the contraption so as not to disturb neighbors with its use. But if the couple continues to use the device as is, it may be jail time!

It seems that the two elderly people involved in this situation are just the icing on the cake of this story, but they aren’t the primary focus. The issue is the noise disturance to this couple’s neighborhood. But how much noise can we be talking about considering the Bronco’s season? That point must not matter, rather the noise they make invading the surrounding neighbor’s privacy. Adams County, on the other hand can’t give warnings first? They go straight to the citation? Maybe previous noise “warnings” send this offense directly to a citation, we aren’t given this information. If the elderly couple is found guilty, what will their punishment be, noise probation? I think this story just shows Adams County in a bad light, the Broncos play (well) on occassion, why ruin the die-hard fans way of celebrating a touchdown?

Being a die-hard football fan myself, I can’t imagine not being able to make some noise while watching a football game. The Broncos games are usually at decent hours of the day and an elderly couple should be able to have a little fun.

I think it’s great that we have Bronco fans that like to make noise!! Adams County must like to waste their money by trying to prosecute a elderly Bronco fan! Come on!! I feel that everyone has the right to make a little noise during any sporting event as long as it doesn’t get out of control. Now if they were having a party and people were getting out of control, I can see prosecuting, but not for a little noise for the Broncos.
